New Concept...

Inspired recently by Kim Bain-Moore, the New Woman BassMaster's Classic contender, I came up with this sort of a marketing idea picture layout for putting these two worlds together finally. :-)

TA-DA!

Cool Women Gear...

There, now what do You think of it? I think that any woman out there who fishes could, should and would, dig this shot and maybe even wanna buy that hot lookin' crank layin' so seductively there, or that power love potion jug, perhaps... ;-)

Go get 'em girls! :-)

Fishing Women...

Yes Women Rock!

I've always known that women make great Fisher-persons. As a matter of record, I've even been married to two of them, so I've had plenty of time to see much first hand proof of that knowledge. ;-) However, this year seems to be even more totally the Year of the Fishing Ladies, from what I've seen lately! I want to take my hat off in here to-day, to two Very Fine Women out there. These great ladies ally excel at what they do. They both LOVE doing what they do and it comes across all over the place!

This then, my fair reader, is my little tribute to these wonderful Role Model Ladies who Love and Live, to Fish...

First off...

There are presently a pile of Fishing shows on T.V. but to the best of my knowledge, there is only One hosted by a Woman. Yes you read that right, a Woman has her own Fishing show on T.V. now! You'll definitely want to "tune in" to This refreshing look at Fishing through a woman's eyes!

This amazing Lady's name is Kathryn Maroun and her fine T.V. show is called, appropriately enough, "What a Catch!"

From the episodes I've watched, she is just Awesome. Such a neat character she portrays in those jungle scenes, cutting her hair and then tying up a killer Fishing fly with it, along with a piece of her foam flip-flop sandal. Spellbinding she is! If You like fishing, or Cool Women, You've gotta tune in to this fox's show. You will NOT be sorry! :-)

Here's a little hyper-link to her website too...What a Catch! Go have a boo for Yourself to-day...

And Now, for 2008, voted as Awesome Femme number 2...

If You've never heard of Kim Bain-Moore before to-day, then I'm really glad to say that you just did, right here on this wee blog and I'm predicting that You will be hearing a lot more about her in the future too. This Australian blooded good looker, won the WBT's Angler of the year title for 2008! That got her not only a brand spanking new Toyota Tundra truck but also, and even more importantly, earned her a berth in the upcoming Fishing World, Main Event, the BassMaster's Classic. That achievement folks, makes this very cool Lady, the very First Woman to EVER get into the Bass Master's Classic!

Yep, Kim will be fishing right alongside the top earning men in the Bassing biz in a few short months. The neat part of that is, that I KNOW that all those boys are going to Love her out there on the tour and will be very Proud of her too. I'll bet ya more than a few of them will end up showing her all their tricks, whenever they get a chance to fish with this sweet thing! Well, until day one of competition that is. ;-)

So I ask You, are You proud of this awesome little Fishing Lady or what? :-) I know I most certainly am. Give her a Google and see where she's been and what she's done so far. This is a real role model here folks, of a smart, tough and versatile, outdoorsy woman, in my books. Thumbs up Kim! You Rule!

She's Classic Bound...

Oh ya, I want it noted right here, right now, that I'm pullin' for her and after reading up on this talented woman, you just may be too...

It's Seasonal Switch time...

Switchin' Gears time...

Well then, that just about does it, now that I've praised these two Fine Outdoorsy Girls to y'all. To wrap it up for to-day, here's a pic to show that it's that time again. Yup, the Big change from soft water to hard water IS here. Brrrrr. I'll be going ice-fishing soon if things go well.

Merry Christmas to All!

Feast your eyes on this sweet, old, Heddon Wood Vamp, with the slick double jointed body! This beautiful old wooden plug was all the rage in it's day and found it's way into many tackle boxes of the 50's and 60's era's.

Views of the Ottawa River

I know that You couldn't be there to scan this beautiful vista for Yourself to-day, so, I recorded a little of it for You and added some of it in here, for all to see now.

Ottawa River

Gatineau Hills

Fall Colors

This fairly high vantage point, overlooking the Ottawa River, is pretty well in the cool little town of Petawawa. Being the Fishing guy, I was twitchin' while trying to snap these pictures. Had to put the Pentax up against a tree so that I could shoot steady. :-)

Time again to enjoy the fall. Get out and see some of those colors folks, before it's too late.

Cheers,

Hot Caps...

On the topic of caps to-day, I do have quite a whack of them for starters. To-day though, I just wanted to show you my latest and perhaps my Coolest one ever. This is the first and only one for me, which can be folded up or crushed when not in use and then unfolded to look just like a regular cap, when you need head protection again.

I call this sweetly styled headgear, my Cool Crusher and it even has the ol' white check mark on it, so people will know where to start looking for this very stylish cap when they see me in mine . :-)

See the pics below to get the idea of what I'm talkin' about here. It's folded in four in the upper left hand corner of the first pic and could easily be folded over again if need be.

Cool Crushy

Opened up and uncrushed, you can see here that it looks pretty sharp, eh?

Cool Crushy UnCrushed

I'll add a few more of my Cap pictures in here soon, under the title Hot Caps, to show y'all I ain't no slouch in the fashion/function department either... :-)

Have a good'un!

So without further delay, here's a hyper-link to it and a pic to go with it, as a hint of what it may or may not contain. :-)

Canadian Writer - Pierre Burton

While doing a little research for my Gold related websites and lenses, I pulled out "The Klondike Quest" A Photographic Essay/1897-1899 Copyright in 1983 By the Great Canadian Historical Writer/ Journalist and amazing individual, Pierre Burton. What a powerful storehouse of facts and photos Mr. Burton has gathered for all the world to see and appreciate. Man, in Those days, Men were Men and most of us to-day, pale by comparison. Those were rugged, tough men, and in a number of cases, real tough women too.

Without sounding like too much of a wimp I hope, I must confess that I did actually shed a tear or three, for those mostly forgotten folks, who sought their fortune in the wilds like that and went through SO many adversities to get it. Most failed to get rich. A pile of them died out there too. A few smarter and or luckier ones, scored Big and did indeed leave the bush rich!

Get ahold of this book, and just see if You can put it down, if you like searching for Gold with more modern day stuff than those poor old souls ever dreamed of. There is still a fair amount of Gold up there where this book takes place. They did NOT get it all. Besides, there has been over a century of storms, floods and rock-crackin' winter cold to replentish a lot of what was previously taken out way back then, so long ago now...

I have a few other Pierre Burton books too, but I really feel close somehow, to this Klondike one of his. You Rule, Pierre Burton!

Food, flowers and Bee's...

Well, I made it down to the river again, right after work, yesterday. The little Pentax again proved worthy of any talents which I may have, in the recording visuals department. This little point and shoot is too much! The E30 handles SO many situations, so easily. I can't praise it enough! A great investment for me...

To start off with, here's a couple of shots of one of my favorite wild foods, the common Milkweed. Both the blossoms and the little buds, along with the young shoots of Spring, are quite edible for most people, or at least, I've been eating them for a long time now anyway and I'm still kickin', as they used to say. ;-)

Milkweed in blossom...

Fresh Milkweed buds...

Anyone else see 3 food sources here? :-)

Plenty of food in this picture! Can you spot it all?

Here's one of little B-buddy, just a bumblin'... :-)

Just bumblin' around...

Last up, a fresh batch of Butter & Eggs for ya, with a tiny drop of a golden nectar of the Gods, at the end of each blossom's tip...mmmmm

Butter and Eggs...

Headin' out later on this mornin' to catch some rays on the bike.Maybe I'll take a few casts and check out how some of my custom lures work, down there in the big O, too perhaps?

A Mink and the Blues Fest...

So, right after work to-day, I headed over towards the Blues Fest down in the old Lebreton Flats, area. After a short walk from the old train bridge area near the O-train, I found myself seated on a hill, with long grasses growing wild, all around me. There were a few colonies of Purple Vetch or "wild peas" as I like to refer to them, growing in patches close at hand. At the edge of the long grass, a number of Wild Carrots, wave their dainty lacy heads, in the refreshing breeze, blowing off the river. There's little or no humidity in the air tonight and that feels good too.

With a few mid-sized trees at my back and the river, straight ahead, while off to my right, a couple of hundred yards away, the powerful tunes, from the Blues Fest, serenade my ears. Two stages are set up over there and you can hear some of the cross-talk between them, whenever the wind shifts. The scents from the various wildflowers, caress my nostrils, as my ears soak up the luxury of the great musical art, wafting my way on the air-stream. I lose myself there, for two set changes and I reflect on just how good it feels to be alive, right there and right then...

Tons of people attend this affair every year but I'm not really big on crowds. Perched as I am, I get great tuneage without the crowds so my choice of kool little hill, is the best of both worlds to-day, for this ol' doggy anyway...

Hello human...

Wildlife shots are not my specialty, as you can see by this shot of a Mink. I loved the fact that he was so close to me and that I happened to have a camera with me, when he showed up. So, you at least get to see what a real Mink looks like, sorta...

Mind expansion material...

If YOU are the type of person who likes low-key, neat, money building ideas, you will absolutely LOVE this hand published Volume written by my favorite Treasure Hunter, Karl von Mueller, AKA Dean Miller, Deek Gladson, and others. Karl, as I came to know him, was my TH'ing Hero, ever since I first read his column in the old Western Eastern Treasures Magazines a number of years ago. Karl's very kool, The OwlHooter's Manual, was published back in 1984 for the layman, by the layman, in his own terms, so as to be easy to understand and follow!

This is a real little gem of a book folks. If you can find it, in even pretty used shape (like mine here) :-) it is a Real powerful idea generator and a mind opener, to boot! Especially, if YOU are into things that take little muss or fuss, in order to work.

I personally have learned much from this prolific writer and recommend his writings to Anyone...

A Gold hunter's finds...

CoolGoldSome Cool Gold...

Contrary to popular belief, Not all the gold is found in the wilds...

Yup, that's right. All the gold in this photo was found in the city, right here in Ottawa.

The kool little Gold key was picked up at a yard sale for a pittance, mixed among some knives, forks and spoons. I believe it is very rare! :-)

The arm band or bangle was eye-balled by my son Lee, when he was about 6 years old as we toured together through a few neighborhoods on a late winter, early spring day.

This darling little engagement ring was pulled out of the ground near a really big tree, in an old park, by the Ottawa River, two years ago. I had only been swinging my metal detector
Gone Detecting... for about a half hour,
when this lovely little golden treasure revealed itself to me through my ear buds, with a soft, smooth, sweet tone, that I just knew was Gold as soon as I heard it whispering there, under three inches of overburden. ;-)

So, you see my friends, Gold is out there, You just have to GO and hunt for it. Doesn't matter if you're in the bush or in the burbs, GOLD could be a lot closer than you think...

Happy Huntin'

:-)

Collectibles Corner...

You know, besides the mostly Outdoorsy stuff I like doing, I also have a bit of a passion for collecting little things that are cool, in one way or another. For instance, I have some die-cast cars in the 1/64 scale, a number of Kinder figurines, like the Crocos and Metal Men. I also have a fair bunch of fine China mixed pieces, a bunch of marbles, dozens of Pez, mint on cards, plenty of Cobalt glass, fishing lures amundo, heaps of old bottles and a fair share of old glass insulators too...

Just click the blue title link above, which will take you over to a couple of pages hosted at the ever popular Geocities dot com, where you can see a few samples of what you may have a desire for, perhaps, if you like little cool collectibles?

Hope you enjoy your tour over there and find something kool you want. :-) Oh ya, grab a free webpage, like I did while you're there. It's pretty easy to set-up and all. ;-)

Best books department...

Good books I love...

I've always liked to read and most of what I read was non-fiction or reality based books and stuff. Here's a couple that You might find as good as I did. Two of my favorite authors too, by the way. Tom Brown Jr. and Richard Bach, have both filled my mind with wonderful thoughts and prompted me towards various actions in my life. They both have written a number of books, most of which I've also read. These great books are right up there in the meat and potatoes department, if you catch my drift. ;-)

This man has made his life study, Nature and all it's inter-twine-ing ways... I've learned MUCH from this real life, modern day Outdoorsman...

Survival Masters Handbook

If you haven't yet read any of Richard Bach's books, you are missing out on some of life's super lessons. This one is perhaps, his very Best, in my opinion, but he does have some other AWESOME books on the market still to-day...

Everything is an Illusion...

Only fiction, but SO realistic and easy to for-see happening around here fairly soon if things keep on going the way they are and all...

Last Canadian...

Check them out and see if these fine soft cover books don't make your favorite authors list in their category... :-)

Tweaked Vamp...

Hail to Heddon...

This venerable ol' puppy has lured it's fair share of fish to net, and it could easily do it again. Well, that's if I ever decided to get it wet again. :-)

It's pretty well retired now, but, I'm takin' offers. ;-)

Custom Vamp

Yup, that's a genuine Customized Heddon Wood Vamp, fellow fishermen and women...

She's not too pretty perhaps, unless you mean deadly? Then this cool old "chopped" Heddon Vamp, is that! Pretty Deadly.

Do you have any custom stuff ya wanna show the folks in here? Well jeepers then, don't be shy. Just send it in the comments box on this page and we'll get 'er showcased for you... :-)

Surrounded by Nature...

Is Nature all around us, or what? Everywhere I go, beautiful Nature. Praise the Lord for this little Pocket Pentax I've been field testin'. It records whatever I've pointed it at, whenever I want. And, this Optio, does it very accurately, to boot. I just LOVE this high-tech marvel!

Go take a little tour over to Flickr and have a peek at some of the shots I've been recording lately. Hope you enjoy them. :-)

Oh ya, if You have lots of pictures on your hard drive or dvd's, You can make good use of Flickr too. It's all free and just amazing what it can do for YOU!

Sup?

So here we are again, back @ the ranch and my boots are still off. Plannin' a day outdoors but still not decided where... Busy week again this past week. Got biking last week-end and remembered how GOOD it all felt again, after such a long winter lay-off. Took a picture or two of an old aquaintance (sp)of mine, along with his bike while out on a neighborhood ride. Biking, the attitude, along with the balance and co-ordination factors involved, keeps one young, in MHO anyway. ;-) I bike to keep healthier in mind and bod. This type of thinking will make anyone feel younger, if they want it to and let it do it's magic...

That reminds me that I'll have to put a link to my blog at LarryB's Blog on my Biking web-site, over on the Tripod server Biking with LarryB Yup, there sure is a lot to do these days. I'm SO fortunate to be able to keep this all up so far...

So anyway, here's two of the shots I Pentaxed the other day, while on my way to work, at my day job. These nice Mullein plants were growing in a waste area, in a nice little colony, not far down the slope from a sidewalk, when I spotted them thriving there.

MorningMullein

This slick little digi-cam certainly ranks right up there in my Photojournalist bag of essentials or EDC items, even. :-) These new leaves are only about a week or so old. Just prime for pickin' in my estimation. Somewhere else on one of these blogs of mine, I mentioned that these leaves make GREAT fire-starter material if left to dry for awhile. So these are the follow up pics to show what they look like when I pick them for my fire kit.

Does anyone else use Mullein? Some swear it makes the best spindles for friction stick fires, if you can find it in your area. Even Tom Brown Jr. stated that in his book, TB's Guide to Edible & Medicinal Plants... :-)

Handy Mullein

Well it's already the middle of April and the nice weather is catching up and the snow is disappearing real quick, without too much flooding... I'm lovin' it! Hopefully this code with work in here to make the link live.

Collectibles...

Some Cool Collectibles...

I've been into collecting neat stuff for quite awhile now and it's only my increased interest in working on the web, that has slowed me down in that department. If I never collected another thing again, I would still have plenty of cool stuff to play with for the next two or three decades. Here's a look at a little bit of some of those collectibles.

Here's my old killer Shadrap, in Crawdaddy flavor to boot...
